Why a payment says "Collection submitted"
What "Collection submitted" means, why it isn't the same as paid, and when it updates.
If you've just made a Direct Debit payment and your invoice still shows "Collection submitted" rather than "Paid", that's expected — here's exactly what the status means.
What it means
"Collection submitted — we've asked your bank for £33.00. It usually clears in 3 working days."
Direct Debit is a request, not an instant transfer. When you see this message, we have asked your bank to move the money, but your bank hasn't confirmed it yet. Confirmation typically takes 2 to 4 working days.
Why we don't say "Paid" straight away
We could show an optimistic "Paid" the moment a collection is submitted, but that would be misleading — a small number of collections don't clear (insufficient funds, a cancelled mandate, or a bank query), and some that do clear can later be reversed under the Direct Debit Guarantee. We'd rather tell you exactly what's true right now than something that might need correcting later. That principle applies everywhere in StoreBay, not just here.
What happens next
- Clears normally (the common case): the status updates to "Payment received — £33.00 on 8 Jul" and your invoice is marked settled. No action needed from you.
- Fails: we'll email you and explain what to do — usually a card or bank-detail check, or a retry with advance notice sent again.
- Reverses after clearing (rare): see What a late Direct Debit reversal means.

Who to contact
If a collection has stayed at "Collection submitted" for longer than a week, contact support with your invoice reference and we'll check it with the bank.
